Think twice before you scrap your good old FM radio

Are you tempted by the latest scrappage wheeze ?  In order to persuade people over to DAB radio from FM, a new scrappage scheme has started this weekend whereby participating retailers will offer a  10-20% discount if you trade in an FM radio for a DAB type.  http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8693613.stm    The take-up of DAB has been slower than the government had hoped and it is feared the proposed switch-over in 2013 will be delayed. What they don't tell you is that DAB coverage can be patchy, sound quality isn't as good as FM, power requirements are 6-12 times greater and DAB car radios have hardly caught on at all so far. The following article is rather 'techie' but a skim through it gives the gist of the background.  http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/DAB+digital+radio
