Local Government statistics estimate that street cleansing costs in Britain for the period April 2008 to March 2009 were £858m - arise of £100m on the previous year. The Campaign for the Protection of Rural England says that, 'As with healthcare, the cost of prevention is much less than the cure....We need a campagn to make people take notice, financial incentives like bottle deposit schemes and better bin provision to allow people to do the right thing'.
