In praise of Grumps.

This is one for the Grumps ! Smiley  Recent research from the University of New South Wales suggests that grumpy can be good.  A study from the Faculty of Psychology at UNSW found that whereas happiness nurtures creativity,flexibility and other outwardly desirable outcomes,  a sad/miserable disposition can aide clear thinking which leads to better decision making and less gullibility.
In the research, experimental groups were encouraged into either good or bad moods by watching particular types of films. They were then asked their opinions on a range of urban myths and yes, you've guessed it !, the gloomier group were less likely to accept them.  The reasoning behind this, according to the research, is that the brain promotes strategies for survival and whilst we all may strive for happiness, there are innate uses for gloominess which enhances characteristics such as attentiveness,caution and attention to detail.     Read more here :- http://www.science.unsw.edu.au/news/special-feature-the-upside-of-feeling-down/
