As part of the funding of the proposed Eco town Bordon,£250000 has been set aside for a study of the transport links to/from Bordon. One aspect of this study is to examine the reopening of the old army rail lines-Bordon to Bentley and Bordon to Liss. The local residents contend that the former would be a complete waste of millions of £'s of taxpayers' money,in that this line would only give access north to London and intervening stations wheras the latter would give access both towards London and the M27 corridor and the Portsmouth area via the connection to the Waterloo to Portsmouth line.
The study will start in the next 6 weeks and will conclude by the end 2010.HCC HAVE CONFIRMED THAT THERE WILL BE A PUBLIC CONSULTATION PERIOD

Part of the study may have already started - a traffic count was carried out on Tuesday at the old railway line crossing on the Binsted Road.
ReplyDeleteOne of the highly probable conclusions of the new railway feasibility study may well be that it will not be practical to feed an additional train service into the existing timetables, especially if the new town fails to generate sufficient passenger traffic levels. The fall-back scenario from this would be a shuttle service to either Bentley, Liss or Liphook ( as per the existing bus service ) If the Council is determined to lash out money on this project, then the most sensible solution would be to replace the existing bus service with a Rapid Transit System (possibly driver-less) across to Liphook. This would be a prestigious facility for the new town and would also be a highly flexible solution with regard to frequency, etc.
